Maybe It’s Love (feat. INFINITE’s Lee Sungyeol)

A/N: Requested by chodalicious . To be quite honest, this was really fun to write :) I’ve never written for Sungyeol before and it came pretty quickly to me~ Hope everyone enjoys this! If you need a song to listen to, listen to “Maybe” by SunYe [Dream High 1 OST]

The ringtone that she had assigned for him woke her up that wintery morning. Poking her head out from underneath the covers, she squinted her eyes as she tried to adjust to the bright light that streamed in through the bedroom blinds. She reached out her hand, and for a good minute she fumbled blindly for her phone until she heard it fall off the night stand and onto the floor. Letting out a groan, she picked it up and pressed it against her. “Hello?” A resounding scream which resembled a dolphin’s, screeched through the phone and she jerked out of bed, dropping her phone onto her coverlet in the process.

“Wake up sleepy head! Are you going to sleep all day? It’s snowing, so come out and play with me!”

“Yah oppa,” she groaned, as she could still hear his dolphin scream ringing through her ears. “It’s the weekend, can’t I sleep in? And don’t you have a schedule for today?” Since he had gotten back from debuting in Japan, Sungyeol had been so busy that they rarely had time to see each other. But after pulling three all nighters studying for her exams, the only thing she wanted was to hide underneath the covers of her warm bed. “5 more minutes,” she mumbled, as she hung up, unaware that she was turning down the opportunity to play with her best friend. Just before she could fall back into a deep sleep, the door to her bedroom swung open and someone pounced onto her bed, tackling her deeper into her mounds of pillows and blankets. Strong arms wrapped around her waist, and long fingers began to dig right into her side, and the next thing she knew she was struggling to breathe as she was being tickled to death.

“Wake up, wake up, wake up!” Sungyeol sang as his weight prevented her from moving, and she squirmed underneath his body, laughing. “Come on, this is the only day I can come and play! I even snuck away from Sunggyu hyung and manager hyung to come see you!” Throwing the covers off of her, she pushed Sungyeol off her bed, and he tumbled to the ground, beaming up at the girl. “Hahaha you have bed head!” He teased, as he reached over to gently pinch her cheek. Blowing out her flushed cheeks in a pout, she grabbed her blanket and covered her disheveled head. “It’s cute,” he grinned, as he reached over to hug her head. “Hurry up! I’m waiting for you downstairs! And dress warmly!” With that, Sungyeol left, leaving her with strange butterflies fluttering about inside her.

When she got downstairs, she found the choding member of Infinite helping himself to the pancakes that her mom had made for her. “Oppa! Those are my pancakes!” She complained, as she tried to push him out of his seat. With a mischievous glint in his eyes, he took another bite as he fought off her attempts to reach the delicious food with one arm. As she opened her mouth to protest, he popped a piece of pancake into her mouth. With wide eyes, she stopped her struggles and her cheeks flushed red as she savored the sweet and soft piece. Sungyeol grinned and cut another piece for her.

“Say ah!” She reached for the fork, but he pulled back.

“I- I can feed myself,” she stammered.

“If you feed yourself, we’ll be here until tomorrow morning,” he frowned, with a teasing glint in his eyes. “Come on, just let me feed you quickly!” Sitting down, she let Sungyeol cut the rest of the pancake, and feed each piece to her.

“Why are you like this oppa?” She muttered. Sungyeol never acted this way; the way he was treating her now, it was as if she was his girlfriend. But she knew that Sungyeol would never settle and she knew he only saw her as his dongsaeng… nothing more.

“What do you mean, ‘why am I like this?’” He asked curiously, as he popped the last piece of pancake into her mouth. “I’m always like this.” Reaching over, he ruffled up her hair with one hand, and she glared at him, after having spent some time fixing her disheveled hair. “You think too much, now hurry up and eat so we can play!”

….

“You made them wait outside?” She asked weakly, when she saw that Sungjong, Dongwoo and Woohyun were outside her house as well, waiting for them patiently so that they could play in the snow.

“They didn’t need to be inside,” Sungyeol said bracingly, as he pushed her outside into the snow, and closed the door behind them. “It’s not that cold anyways.” Sungjong was already covered with snow from head to toe, grumbling as he brushed himself off, because Woohyun and Dongwoo had ganged up on him and thrown him into a snow drift.

“Let’s have a snowball fight!” Woohyun grinned, as she and Sungyeol joined the rest of the boys. Grabbing her around the shoulders, Woohyun smiled down at her. “She’s on my team!” Sungyeol glared at his hyung, as Dongwoo burst out laughing. In the end, she found herself on Woohyun’s team with Sungjong, while Sungyeol and Dongwoo were on the other team. She hadn’t laughed or had this much fun in such a long time, as she tackled Sungyeol to the ground with the help of Sungjong, pushing his face into the snow as his limbs went flailing. Dongwoo had good aim, with one of his snowballs hitting the back of Woohyun’s head. She gave a yelp as Sungyeol came after her, while Woohyun and Sungjong ganged up on Dongwoo, grabbing the older boy and throwing him into a snow drift, finishing it off by creating an avalanche of snow on his face. She thought she was in the clear, but he took a flying leap and tackled her to the ground. The soft snow cushioned her fall as landed on top of her, pinning both her wrists on either side of her head with his hands.

“Gotchya!” He said triumphantly, bending down so that their faces were close to touching. Her cheeks flared red, as she became aware of how close they were. None of them said anything, and with every passing second she could feel her heartbeat race even faster.

“O-oppa,” she stammered. “Wh-what are you doing?” Sungyeol didn’t say anything. That mischievous and playful look that characterized his choding personality was replaced with a look of seriousness and gentleness. He leaned closer, so that his forehead was pressed against hers. “I thought you didn’t…” she said faintly.

“You thought I didn’t like you that way? Well, I like you,” he said firmly, letting their breaths mingle in a warm mist, that hung in the cold air. Closing her eyes, she waited with anticipation for something to happen. He chuckled, and before he could make his next move, Sungjong’s voice could be heard above them.

“Yah hyung, what are you doing to her?” The maknae yelped. Shielding her face with his shoulders, Sungyeol gave her a quick kiss on the nose before pulling her to her feet.

“Nothing,” Sungyeol said airly, before letting go of her hand, and pushing a handful of snow into Sungjong’s face. Laugher filled the air as Sungjong spluttered indignantly, trying to wipe the moisture off his face. She smiled at Sungyeol as he grinned back at her mischievously, then raced off to rescue Dongwoo who was being tortured by Woohyun’s bombardment of snowballs.

So maybe it’s love then.
