A/N: Inspired by “In Time”. Good concept, but poor execution. Basically a movie with a bad plot but beautiful people. Gosh Cillian Murphy is so gorgeous .____.
…
Everything happened too fast. He felt himself plunging into a dark watery abyss and his lungs fill up with water. As he sank deeper into the unending chambers, he suddenly felt someone pull him up out of the water, and his body crashed onto a smooth surface. Gasping for air, his body shook violently from his coughs and he could feel someone gently pat him on the back. Standing there was a masked figure dressed in a dark blue cloak, with silver stars scattered at the hem. “Where am I?” He choked, gasping for air as his saviour carefully helped him to stand. “Who are you?”
“You are at the Terminal, and my name is Time.” The voice behind the mask was filled with authority, and wisdom, yet neither female or male. It was just… a voice.
“What am I doing here?” He asked, as he began to take in his surroundings. They were standing in a white space, that never seemed to end. He noticed that the pool of water that Time had pulled him out of, was not the only pool there. Rather, they were surrounded by thousands of blue pools of water, and as they walked around these pools, he noticed that there were images and films that flashed across the surfaces.
“You are here because you are out of time,” Time explained calmly. “These pools of water contain every moment, every second of your life.” Panic raced through his mind as he caught sight of the day he first rode a bike, a family vacation he took overseas, the day he graduated from high school and the day he was accepted into a music entertainment company.
“So I’m dead,” he said hollowly, as they approached a white podium that stood amongst the pools of water. There, sat a book with gold bindings, which had the thickness that exceeded that of several dictionaries.
“Yes… and no,” Time said, as it opened up the book with slender hands. “Your fate will be determined by the contents of this book.” The young man watched as Time’s fingers passed along the pages like a ghost, until it finally settled on one line.
“I don’t know.” Time whispered softly, as the young man jerked his head up. “Those were your last words, weren’t they?” Pointing to a pool a few metres away, Time gave him a short nod, and he slowly walked towards it; a slow pain filled his body, as he already knew what he would see.
[Flash Back]
“What are we?” Her words seemed to pierce his soul, as he drove down the road along the river. “You even ignore me in front of your group members, and they know that we’re together. It’s like you don’t even care.” Out of the corner of his eye, he watched her twist the promise ring on her finger. Her tolerance was remarkable, as today marked their 3-year anniversary. Their relationship remained a secret even amongst their friends during high school, all the way into his debut. But fate seemed to laugh at them, as the time spent together began to shorten, and phone calls remain unanswered. “Does it matter to you any more? Do I matter?” Just as he made a sharp turn on the slippery pavement that dark evening, before his car swerved, and plunged down the steep river bank and into the cold icy water, he replied with his last three words:
“I don’t know.”
……
His shoulders racked with sobs, as he realized that he could never see her again. Those three years had been hard, as their group had been hit with controversies, scheduling mishaps, and injuries. Yet not once did she complain; her quiet support was what kept him standing and supporting his group as a leader. As he drifted farther from him, she never gave up on him, once standing outside his apartment for hours until he came home so that she could give him his birthday present. “I didn’t even tell her I loved her,” he whispered. “Not once, and now it’s too late.” Time watched him as he sank onto his knees, his tears falling into the pool and disturbing the memory, making it disappear into nothingness.
“What would you tell her?” He looked up at Time who was watching him through its mask. “If you could have one more minute, what would you say?” The young man stood up and looked at Time for a moment, before he took a breath and shook his head.
“To be honest, I don’t even deserve that minute; I don’t deserve that right to love her and have her. That privilege should be given to someone who will treasure her, and treat her the way she deserves to be treated.” He casted a look into the pool, a faint smile on his face. “I don’t even deserve to see her face again.” Suddenly, before he could do anything, Time gave him a push, and he found himself falling face first into the pool. But as he began to rise to the surface, he could hear shouts and screams as rough hands pulled him up out of the water once more. Screaming sirens filled the air, and the next thing he knew, he found himself gasping for air on the shore of the river bank.
“Yah! Are you okay?” A fire fighter had pulled him out of the water, and was trying to perform CPR. Choking out water, his eyes searched wildly for her face, and he grabbed onto his rescuer’s arm.
“Where is she?” He choked out. “Where is my girlfriend?” He caught sight of her lying on the ground a few metres away, and he scrambled frantically towards her still body. Pushing away the people around her, he gently grabbed her face in his hands. “Please, wake up,” he begged, pressing his forehead against hers. “Open your eyes, I’m begging you!” Pressing his lips against hers, he let his breath fill her body, and at that moment, her chest rose and fell, as she coughed out water. Gasping for breath, she clutched onto his arms, and he could hear his name on her lips. As he held her in his arms with tears streaming down his face, he could hear Time’s voice in the faint distance. The only person in time and space that can determine whether you are deserving of her love, is her. So don’t waste her time, and with what I have decided to give back to you. She looked up at him and he pressed he pressed his lips against hers in a bruising kiss, as he tried to express everything he felt and had for her in that one intimate gesture. As he pulled back, he pressed his forehead against hers, watching their breaths mingle together in a cold mist. “I love you,” he said breathlessly. “With what Time has been returned to me, I will make sure I will return your love tenfold.”
